Seeing With Photography Collective (SWPC):

SWPC is a group of photographers based in New York City who are visually impaired, have limited sight or are totally blind, lead by Artist Mark Andres.

Between 2002 and 2005 I was part of SWPC as a volunteer photographer. The experience helped me to build my foundation as a photographer and to understand the different characteristics of light. My contribution was to help the blind photographers set up the camera, flash lights and to be the guide for them before the actual shoot, followed by helping to develop the sheets of 4×6 film and, the most important part, to describe the final picture to them.

In those years, Sonia Soberats (member of SWPC), and I became very close. I documented her for several months. The next series of pictures tell her story as a blind artist. Currently she works with digital capture.

NYC Subway

When I first came to NYC it called my attention the Subway system. With a weekday average of ridership of 5.4 million users through NYC’s five boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx and Staten Island) and 22 different routes, NYC subway system ranks number 7th. in the world, being Tokyo number 1. Obsessed with this mass transit system, the following pictures are the result of several years of documentary photography.
